Have you ever thought, who the angels really were?

Have you thought, who were models for the angel figures and statues, what are found in many old churches? Who were those women and men, who gave their shape for those sculptures? The angel sculptures are portraying the ordinary-looking people, who have the simple haircut, and the kind looks on their faces. How the sculptor choose those persons? What criteria was used, when the persons asked to stand as the model? Were they nuns or monks, or noble women or men? Or were they orphans, who were some way special?  Did they get salaries for that job? And are those statues made that people could recognize those persons, who are trapped in the stone?

In some theories, those sculptures are portraying people, who are suitable spouses for noble people, because in those positions, must everybody know, what they were doing. But as we know those figures are very fascinating, and there are many interesting thoughts about them. One of the most exciting thought about the angel figures was given by H.G Wells, the early Science Fiction writer.

That theory or thought is that in some of those statues is preserved the humans, who are something special. In fact, I don't remember was behind this theory H.G Wells,  William Shakespeare or somebody else. That theory bases the fact that sometimes in the carbon mining in Wells have been found living frogs inside the carbon bites, and there are theories, that those angel-sculptures are made for giving those persons, whose pictures are trapped in the sculpture forever live.

In this case, the person, who would put in that sarcophagi would first be covered with carbon, what would clean the liquids, and then the core of the calcium would cover that body. After that, the embalmed body would cover by stronger stone. In some ideas, the person can be embalmed by the thin plastic core, and then this person could refresh to live after centuries. But if we would think, how reasonable this thing could be, we must say, that those frogs, what are found inside the carbon bites could also be fake, but this kind of things is interesting to think in the morning mist. Maybe Egyptians tried that thing when they embalmed their mummies, and they might think, that technology would allow the life forever.

The message of the Hugo Simberg painting “At the Crossroads”

"At the crossroads"
Hugo Simberg
(1894)

Kimmo Huosionmaa

The symbolism of the art is the very deep thing. When the portrait is looked the first time many people see only the picture of something. But when we are thinking about the portrait, there might be the very deep story to tell for the watcher. Above the text is Hugo Simberg painting, where angel and devil are walking together with the man.

First, we will see the very funny situation, but then there would be a serious message for the observer. Hugo Simberg wanted to tell us, that when the man learns some skills, this person makes always own choices between good and bad. The devil is on the right side, and it pulls the man to walk together with this character.

Angel in at the left side of the person. The symbol of this character is that the choices must be made by using the heart. This is sometimes difficult, and when we are looking at this portrait, we must say, that the choice to follow the devil seems sometimes be right. And following the devil always looks like very easy.

Evil always promises something nice looking thing, what symbolizes those ships at the strait. The canvas of those ships is red, what symbolizes hate and violence. This thing means that devil promises the revenge for that man. Angel promises nothing. But when we are thinking about those promises, the devil will set this man to the position, where this person must thank this devil. So devil hangs this person in his character, and addicts this man about the gifts what this bad character gives to this man in this painting.

When people are walking with the angel, they will walk straight ahead. But then there would be no choice than choose of two roads what are offered. This person has come to “T” crossing, where he must make the choice, what road would he choose. And they would understand the consequences of the decisions, what this person makes. Following the devil seems very easy, but it would not take the life anywhere. The initial setting of the portrait is quite a mark of Stoic philosophy, where people should be very cold and objective.

And the devil at the right side of the man symbolizes also the inducements of the life. There are many things, how the person can destroy the own and other people life. And those things like drugs, illegal activities and bad company should be avoided. This is the thing what Simberg wants to tell the people in this portrait.

About innovation and how it can be destroyed

Kimmo Huosionmaa

Money is a good thing, but if you want to destroy innovation, you must do one bad decision. That is giving money to the team little bit too early. If a team is not ready for innovation and it inner pierces are not playing on the same team, the innovation in the team might die. If team members must race against together they will destroy all company or proto company. When the young person establishes new company they must realize that the investors are not angels. They don't give money for free. They want their investments back with heels. And when team collects new money, they must first make the product ready. After that, they can introduce that thing to investors.

The team is the most important thing in the innovation process, and a key element is that team members must trust each other. If they must be afraid to talk freely, without fear kickoffs, the team will work better than if somebody must afraid that he or she will kick off. If some member of the team will always yell to others and behaves like an asshole, that will poison all atmosphere of that team. The most vulnerable thing for team spirit is a person who plays something that he or she is not.

Another way to destroy innovation is that some member of the team will know that he or she will kick off in some day. When we remember that team spirit is very important for innovation, what kind of motivation will have a member who is totally out of the team? Does that person gives his or her full attention and does he or she deliver own ideas to others. I think that answer is “no", and that person probably does not even talk to other personnel of the group. Most of that person’s time goes with making new CV and job application for next job interview. That will not rise that kind of workers work spirit.

But why giving money too early makes bad things for innovation? When somebody is giving money for something that makes target society a firm. In the firm innovation is not free, because customers want profits. And if the product is not ready, that will cause stress for the members of a team. And if the customer or business angel gives money will that person cause race situation inside that group, because everybody wants money and profits from their product. When somebody wants to invest money to some company or product he or she wants to get outcomes from his or her investment.

So when business angel wants 20% profit that person wants 1,20 euros for every euro what that person gives to the company. And that makes stress to the team because they must have something to show on deadline. And that "something" must be something, what gives money to that person. If money doesn't come, that "angel" will get the team to court and begins debt collection, and that is a very unhappy situation for everybody.
