Ability to teach neurons living in the dish to play pong might not seem very impressive. But that kind of thing can make the revolution for the development of the next-generation microchips and therapy for neural damage. 

If medical staff can teach cloned neurons they can transplant them to points where the nervous system is damaged. The problem with neural transplants is that the skills of destroyed neurons are gone. So the ability to teach neurons is making it possible to give a new type of therapy for brain tumors and other neural damage. 

But the ability to teach living neurons on a dish is making it possible to create new and powerful tools for controlling computers. Those tools are half-organic microchips where living neurons communicate with silicon-based microchips. That thing makes those systems very flexible. 

If the new skills will transfer to neurons by using synthetic EEG pulses. That thing makes it possible to create a new type of flexible processor that allows the systems to operate more independently than ever before. And of course, those neurons require nutrients. 

So there is the possibility that those microprocessors are connected with cell cultures where is some kind of algae or bacteria that can feed the organic part of microchips. Maybe in the future, the user of the computer must feed those processors by using sugars and nutrients that keep those neurons alive.
