 Many companies are working to develop portable nuclear reactors (PoNu) to replace diesel generators. 


Work with compact and powerful nuclear reactors continues. The reactor's purpose is to replace diesel generators fit in trucks. That means they can be used in multiple systems, from fixed power plants to ultimate power sources for ships, trains, and aircraft. And even trucks and tanks. The reason why those small-size nuclear reactors are under development is that. 

These kinds of systems decrease carbon emissions. Another reason why those systems are under development is that modern weapon systems like direct energy weapons, which means microwaves and lasers require electric power. Also, coherent high-power radio waves that are used to deliver electricity to drones remotely through air require a trusted and powerful power source. The portable nuclear reactors can changed same way as batteries. 

And if some ship or aircraft uses portable nuclear reactors. Operators can just put it in its place and connect with electronics and electric systems using fast connection. The operators must just connect electric wires to the reactor. And then that system delivers electricity to the vehicle. That kind of system can be on the deck and deliver electricity to the ships and aircraft. The liquid helium can keep those system's temperatures lower. 


Highly radioactive, superheavy isotopes as fuel make it possible to create man-portable nuclear reactors. 


If the system can use an extremely small nuclear reactor as a power source. It can make it possible to create even nuclear-powered helicopters that can fly for years. The crew is the limit in the flight time of that nuclear-powered helicopter. In automatic mode, the helicopter like a nuclear-powered aircraft can fly even for years.  

In the 1950s and 1960s, U.S. Army and Air Force tested nuclear-powered tanks and aircraft. The nuclear-powered Convair NB-36H and Chrysler TV-8 tanks were interesting projects. Also, the Soviets tested nuclear-powered aircraft like the nuclear-powered Tu-95 Bear-class nuclear bomber during the Cold War. And today Russians are working with nuclear-powered "Skyfall" missiles. The plasma-electric jet engines also make it possible to create super, and hypersonic nuclear-powered aircraft.

Could the mysterious "Aurora" be a nuclear-powered aircraft? That can use antimatter "afterburner"?

If developers want to aim tanks with high-power laser, and microwave mixture weapons they need a power source. And a nuclear reactor will be a good solution. 

The man-portable nuclear reactor can act as a weapon. If the radiation protection is removed from a certain part of the system. That system sends highly radioactive radiation and ionized particles in the desired direction. 


The new TRISO fuel makes that system safe. The highly radioactive elements make those reactors small. 


The new type of nuclear fuel is called TRISO, where nuclear material is closed in graphite and silicon carbide. That thing makes those reactors safer than traditional reactors. The fuel in TRISO balls or capsules can be uranium, but it can also use higher radioactive synthetic elements like plutonium, neptunium, or even einsteinium. 

The super-heavy elements require a system that is near zero-kelvin degrees temperature. And the liquid helium is the answer to that problem. The system adjusts the fission speed by adjusting the temperature. If the reactor uses weapon enrichment in plutonium or some even heavier and more radioactive elements. That means the reactor's size would be so small, that one man can carry it.

"PoNu" or portable nuclear reactors will change many things.



Portable nuclear reactors the container-size nuclear systems. The power of those reactors is less than 50 megawatts. Or 10-50 megawatts. Portable nuclear reactors make possible to create of things like scramjet-powered hypersonic aircraft possible. 

Hydrogen is the best fuel in hypersonic aircraft. And portable nuclear reactors are making it possible to create hydrogen by using electrolysis. 

Hydrogen can also use in cars and other vehicles as fuel. The hydrogen-powered car that uses hydrogen as fuel requires only electricity and water to create hydrogen. The thing that makes electricity for electrolysis is not important. 

And the same systems that deliver electricity to electric vehicles. Can use to deliver electricity to the electrolysis chamber. The problem is how to produce that electricity without emissions. 

The electrolysis chamber can be on the body of the car or aircraft. And operators can just connect the electric wire to the aircraft. 

The system conducts water into the electrolysis chamber. And in that chamber, electricity breaks water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen. That means space rockets can also use similar systems for creating their fuel.  

Portable nuclear reactors are also effective systems for making electricity for DEW (Directed Energy Weapons) like laser systems. The only thing that a laser system needs is electricity. And portable nuclear reactors guarantee every laser station has an independent power source. 

A nuclear reactor makes it possible to create electricity that makes the system independent from the regular power source. The portable nuclear reactor that is connected to aircraft can make an airspace system with virtually unlimited operational time. And that kind of system can also deliver electricity to other systems around that aircraft.

New portable nuclear reactors can revolutionize aviation and many other things.

New portable nuclear reactors that can move by using trucks can make a new revolution in nuclear energy. The power output of those miniature nuclear reactors that are under development in many countries is about 20 megawatt per unit. But those units can connect to one larger entirety. And that makes it possible to make large-scale modular systems. 

The portable nuclear reactors also make it possible to connect those reactors to any electric network in the world. That means that all ships that have diesel-electric engine systems can get energy boosters from portable nuclear reactors. The nuclear reactor would drive the ship. And then it will connect to the ship's electric system. The system can use a normal high-voltage electric connector.

And when nuclear power is not needed anymore. That reactor can be driven out from the ship and used in different places. The small portable nuclear reactor is easy to install and remove from the devices. It can be so easy a process that we can compare it with chancing batteries. The nuclear reactor can also install in aircraft like large-size cargo planes or strategic bombers. And it gives them virtually unlimited operational time.

 Nuclear reactors are excellent tools for delivering energy for the new electric jet turbines. And plasma-ion engines. Those systems can revolutionize aviation in the both civil and military sectors. 

That allows for making the of hypersonic aircraft that can operate under both atmospheric and space conditions. The electric jet engines along with nuclear reactors makes also possible that the aircraft can keep the super- or hypersonic speed even for weeks or months.

That kind of system can also deliver energy in the areas where is emergency conditions. If the aircraft that uses micro nuclear reactors is landing in an area where is no electricity it can give power supply for that area. 

Also, nuclear-powered aircraft and shuttles can operate in the atmospheres of another planet. That means the nuclear-powered spacecraft can land on another planet. And then the crew along with robots can make their base. The base can get its energy from that nuclear-powered shuttle.
